The verdict

A messy, cinematic, gloriously tense story machine that some people will adore and others will want to flip the table over. If the randomness and backstabbing sound thrilling instead of cruel, you'll love it.

Best for: Theme-first groups who want a tense space horror story, not a fair contest

The full review

What it is

Nemesis is Adam Kwapiński's 2018 survival horror box, and it wears its Alien inspiration on its sleeve. You're crew on a crippled ship, creatures are loose in the vents, and every loud noise risks dragging one toward you. The miniatures are huge, the board sprawls, and players consistently call out how cinematic it feels. The closest thing to a jump scare a board game has managed. That's the pull, and it's a strong one.

The catch

Here's the honest part. This is a semi-co-op game, which means everyone has a secret objective, and yours might require a crewmate not making it home. People love that knife-in-the-dark tension, but it frustrates others just as hard. It's also wildly random. Players who hate dice and card draws tend to despise it, because a careful plan can die to one bad pull. And it's player elimination, so dying early can mean watching for an hour.

Who it's for

So who's this for? Theme hounds who want a story, not a balanced contest. If betrayal and chaos sound like the fun rather than the flaw, Nemesis delivers a tense, unforgettable run almost every time, win or lose. If you want fairness, control, and nobody benched, skip it. Setup is long and the table is big, but groups that click with it call it one of the best horror experiences in the hobby. Believe the hype, carefully.
